ABOUT
THE EVENT
The Sidewalk Arts
Stroll debuted in Huntsville in June, 2006. It began as an experiment
to see if a free arts event around the historic courthouse square in
Huntsville would draw people downtown, and, once there, whether they
would buy art. We were astounded at the initial response. We anticipated
perhaps a few hundred people; several thousand showed up. And, yes,
they purchased art.
The Stroll is an arts marketplace. It is not a juried art show. We take
great pride that the Stroll attracts a diversity of artists and a great
diversity of artwork. And it draws the participation of artists at various
stages in their professional careers. While many of our Stroll artists
have established reputations and regularly exhibit select regional shows
and in galleries, for several of our artists this is their first art
festival.
The Stroll also provides a great venue for musical or performance groups.
On one corner there may be a gospel music group, on the next a band
playing original music, on the next a jazz saxophonist, and on the next
an improvisational group rounding up volunteers from the audience!

The 2009 Sidewalk
Stroll will debut a new feature for the marketplace, with the addition
of a section featuring locally grown produce, home baked goods, and
other fine, hand crafted products. Joining them will be booksellers,
antique dealers, and other vendors of one-of-a kind items.
So whether you are
an artist, an entertainer, an artisan who specializes in home baked
breads, or someone who just wants to enjoy downtown Huntsville on a
summer evening, we invite you, your family, your
friends, to the Sidewalk Arts Stroll. The arts stroll is free to the
public.
